QuestionI am looking for an adult springboard diving coach/trainer. I am 26 and have not been on a board since high school. I know all the basics, and used to be pretty decent on a 1M springboard. Do you know of anyone in the Tacoma Washington area that might fit my needs or be able to direct me to someone that can?
AnswerHi Anthony -
There is only one facility in the Puget Sound area where you are going to be able to dive and it is found in Federal Way at the King County Aquatic Center. This place is considered one of the best indoor diving pools in the US and has been the site for many major events. It will be hosting next years Men's NCAA Division I championships in March and the USA Diving Olympic Trials in June.
The pool is closed right now for annual maintenance and will not open up again until next month. There is a club team there called Emerald Diving that is run by head coach Kelly Robertson. She is a two time Olympic medalist from the 1980's and has been known to take on adults along with her age group team. Contact her by e-mail at:
[email protected].
You will need to join USA Diving as a Masters diver. Go to www.usadiving.org more more information on how to join. Masters is a term for adult recreational and competitive diving. There is not much Masters diving in the Seattle area as the most populous diving age groups are 18 and under plus high school diving is big. Also go to www.mastersdiving.org.Another website to check out is www.diving.about.com. Type in masters diving in the search box.
I am sure Kelly can help you out or have one of her other coaches teach you.
