NYC kids dive classes

HI Tom
Saw a response you had posted in 2009--wondering if you have current info. I am looking for a kids dive class in NYC. I have found one at a facility called Asphalt Green, but was looking for other options and thought you might have some suggestions. My child is 8. Thanks.

The best place to start looking for diving classes is to go to www.usadiving.org. Click on Clubs and then Find A Club. Enter NY and a list of teams will come up. The other option is to go to www.aaudiving.org and find coaches and programs.You should also try looking for teams in New Jersey as it is not that far from NYC.

www.divemeets.com is a source to find teams with lesson programs. At the top of the home page, click on lists of divers, teams and coaches. Click on teams and a huge list will come up. Scroll down looking for teams in NY and then click on the teams name for contact info.

One other option not listed at the above sites is to contact the coach at Columbia University, Gordon Spencer. He may have something to offer or know of someone who could teach lessons to your child.Just Google the schools athletic department website to find his e-mail and phone.

www.diving.about.com is a site that explains the sport. Type in 'lessons' in the search box for articles on what to expect from a beginning program.
