Question
do you know what year NCAA D1 switched from 11 dives to 6 dives for 3-meter and 1-meter?

NCAA D1 switched to 6 dives on the springboard events when USA Diving made the change in conjunction with FINA, the international governing body for all aquatic sports.Since the top six divers at the NCAA D1 national championship finals qualify for USA Diving Senior Nationals they (NCAA) had to have divers do the same number of dives. Voluntary dives (requireds/compulsories) were dropped because meets just took too long and the sport advanced to the point where these easy dives should only be required for age group (Junior Olympic) divers.
I wish I knew the exact year but I do not.It was sometime during the last decade. You can find out by contacting the staff at the USA Diving national office. Their website is www.usadiving.org.A guy named Jim Quinlivan might know since when he dived, he was an NCAA national champion. Ask him if there are archived results of senior nationals somewhere on their website. You might also try www.fina.org and look through their record of results to see when they went to six dives. It will be the same year or year after that the NCAA changed to six dives.
I am sorry I cannot give you the exact year but I am sure you can find out with the above info.
