Non-Slip Surface
Question
Do you know of a good (cheap) non-slip substitute for rough-tex? I want to make a 1M platform for my club and am trying to keep costs low.
Answer
Hi Logan -
The last time I tried using an inexpensive platform surface, I went to a discount carpet store and got some indoor/outdoor carpeting that had as rough a texture as I could find. It was cheap but the problem was it did not last as long as I had hoped. I put it on an outdoor platform and after a while it got very weathered and started to lose its non-slip surface due to rain and mildew.
What I would suggest you do buy a small section of rough-tex and place it down on the last 3 feet of the platform and for the rest of its' length, look for some indoor outdoor carpeting. This way the most important part of the platform has the non-slip surface that will last a long time.
I went to the website www.springboardsandmore.com, and clicked on 'Platform Surfaces'. I entered info on the 2 ply rough-tex for 24 inches wide and 3 feet long. The price was only $33.50 plus shipping. Seemed like a good deal to me.Other widths are available depending on the size of your platform. Then when you place down the less expensive carpeting, make sure it is same thickness as the rough-tex so no one trips while running down the platform. You are going to need a good glue which is also found at this website.
Hope all this helps. Good luck.
