diving in VA

My daughter is 14 and has been swimming for 9 years and is now intersted in diving but I am not sure where to look for lessons or a dive team in our area - we live in Poquoson VA which is by Hampton and Newport News

The sport of diving is very strong in your state but just not the area where you live. The closest team to you is in Richmond which may be too far to go. Most of the teams are in Northern VA near Washington D.C. You could live in an area where the pools are not deep enough to have diving boards or if there are pools with boards, they are not of the quality that would attract a professional diving coach.

Here are some websites to try and find a program:

www.usadiving.org - Click on Join USA Diving and then Find A Club and a list of teams will come up. The program in Richmond is one of the teams listed.You could call them and see if they know of coach/team in your area.

www.divemeets.com - Click on Find and then Team, Coach or Pool.Huge lists at this site.

www.swimmersguide.com - navigate your way to finding pools in your city/county.

www.diving.about.com - site that explains the sport. Enter 'lessons' in the search box.

I wish I had better news but you could be living in an area where diving does not exist.
