Is 20 to old to start platform diving
Question
Hi, my name is Kevin and I would love to become a diver. As a child, I always loved being in water and was always swimming. Sadly I just turned 20 on July 3, is it to late to start diving? I also have a very athletic body and a height of 5'9 and weigh 147 lbs. This seems embarrasing wanting to start at such an old age, but I' ve always wanted to be a diver and I am determined. Any feedback 爓ould be great. If it is not to late could you please provide places I can go to in Ft Lauderdale.
Thank you

Kevin -
Once you get past the age of 18, there are 3 choices on becoming a diver. One is college, two is a senior diver (which is very difficult)and three is joining a Masters Diving program. Masters is a term for adult recreational competitive diving. That would really be the best choice for someone new.College diving teams usually do not take beginners and senior diving consists of only doing the most difficult dives.
There are many teams to choose from in South Florida. You should visit each one and ask if they will take someone new that is your age into their masters team. Just go to www.usadiving.org, click on Join USA Diving and then Find A Club. Enter FL and a list of teams will come up. Look for the contact information of these clubs:
Ft. Lauderdale Diving, Pine Crest Divers, Seahawks Diving Team, Full Out Divers, Divingwell
and Coral Springs Divers.
Also go to www.mastersdiving.org so you know what to expect. www.diving.about.com is a good site that explains the sport.
Good luck in your search. I am sure one of these teams will find a place for you.
Do I still have the CHANCE?
