jumping injury!
Question
Hi Scott, Being (I thought) a bit sporty, I have jumped from a height of about 10ft on to soft grass, while on a cross country run, hidden however was a rock, which my left heel took the full weight. I am unable to put any pressure at all on it but I can walk on tip toe, for about 2 mins max. The area of pain is now solid to the touch, minimal swelling, but has little or no discolouration? I am writing this 1hr after event so bruising may appear in time. Level of pain while foot is elevated at rest is maybe 5/10, but 9/10 when standing. Hope that helps. Kind Regards Mark Pirie.
Answer
Although I could not diagnose the injury, there are a lot of bones and ligaments in the foot that could have been hurt. Over time the extent of damage will become apparent.
In the meantime, stay off of it as much as possible, ice it regularly, and elevate it when you can. If this doesn't improve the situation within a day or two, it may be more serious and need a doctor's attention.
I hope this reaches you in a timely manner in case you had not thought of anything I mentioned. I sincerely hope you are back to running and walking soon!
