weight loss
Question
how long do you have to power walk on a treadmill to loose 2 pounds
Answer
There are a lot of variables that go into weight loss from exercise. I can only give you a general figure.
In general we can use a figure of about 100 calories burned per mile. To lose 2 pounds of fat takes about 7000 calories burned. 7000 divided by 100 = 70 miles. Sounds like a lot, huh? And that assumes you don't increase your eating. This would not be the kind of thing you would do all at once!
The real value of exercise comes from revving up your metabolism. The method involves targeting a weight-loss of 1.5 lbs per week through a combination of exercise and moderately reduced eating. You could probably do that by cutting back about 500 calories per day in addition to gradually increasing your daily distance to 2 miles. Losing more than 1.5 lbs per week is not recommended because of the greater likelihood of gaining it back.
In any case, you would never want to jump into high mileage exercise without giving your body time to adjust to the stresses.
