custom graphics on windsurfing board

Question
Hey, I was wondering about the best way of getting custom graphics onto my board.  I have an F2 Chilli 99 that I am fixing, so i thought that while i'm at it, I might aswell go all-out and give my board graphics.  I want to put the grahpics on the top of teh board, probably get them printed at a sign-shop.  On what material should I get it printed, and what is the best way to apply the graphics onto the board?  Also, any recommenations on how to do the non-skid after applying the graphics?

If I were to put a large decal onto the bottom of the board (similar to the Starboard Tiki sticker, but for the entire bottom), would that have an effect on how the board sails?

If you've never done anything like this or have no idea how to do something like this that's alright, I'm just looking around for suggestions/ideas on the best way to proceed, or whether it's worth it at all or not.  Thanks in advance for your reply
Tom

Answer
Hey Tom,

The first thing to check on would be the compatability of the graphics to epoxy resins. Most after market non-skids are an epoxy resin with grit in it. Also be sure that the new non-skid will be compatible with your board.

As for the bottom, not sure how will your graphic would hold up. A good vinyl sticker should stay on fairly well but if starts peeling at all you may have a bit of a mess. As for how the board would sail, it may not be quite as slick and maybe be a bit slower as time goes on, but it may not be noticable.

Another option that my cost a bit more but less hassle would be to have some custom airbrush work done on the board. Most airbrush paints are compatible with epoxy as that is what many custom surfboard makers use.

If there is a surfboard shop near you, go talk to them about your project and see what they have to say. You could also post some questions at iwindsurf.com for some input. This may all be worth it, and it may not. I think you need a bit more info prior to proceeding. But whatever you do, best of luck with the project.

Keep on sailing,
Windlover
