Broken UV joint (i think)
Question
I have a huge interest in windsurfing, and can't wait to get started. I bought a used Kerma windsurfing board that's about 15 years old. First day trying it out i was all excited and once i got the mast up, i broke the flexible rubber joint - what I've determined from other posts is the "mistral universal joint". I went to the local shop, but they don't have anythign that old, and the board mounting styles have since changed :-\. I've learned that I need to keep the top part of this junction - the piece that fixes to the mast itself. and its from teh rubber part, down that i need ot replace. Any idea of where i can get one / any other ideas?
I saw this for sale but i don't know if it'll fit. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Sports/Windsurfing/photos/a-101648988/p-41732982.htm
Any help appreciated, thanks!!!
Answer
Hey Scott,
The part you posted may work. It sounds like you only need the rubber hourglass part. You may be able to remove those parts to get just the rubber part.
Here is a source for just the hourglass. The threads have been universal size and type for many years so this should work. Just take your parts off and put them on the new one. Be sure to use Blue locktite. With Blue, you can remove it later but it won't let go until you want it to. With Red locktite, it is almost permanent.
If your lower part on the bottom of the rubber piece has broken, you may have some trouble locating a matching part. Kerma has not been in business for quite some time. Best of luck with finding the parts you need.
