Question
Patrick, thanks for your response.
I realize that 125 would be better but do you think the Radar 140 has any value as a transitional board? Is it too old? I ask because it's cheap and I thought it would allow me to get out in conditions where the 180 is maybe too wide. Or, will I be able to progress on the 180 in 20+mph and rough? I will be getting a 5.4 sail.
Thanks a lot.
Answer
The 140 will not be too much different than the 180. You definitely will not be able to control the 140 in 20mph wind. The board has too much volume and even with a 5.4 sail will plane up so high that the wind will start to blow the board around and when the board comes down in the water, you will be going so fast and the bigger volume of the board will create too much drag and the sail will get pulled out of your hands. If you are wearing a harness you will get catapulted big time. Not fun!! I have been there and done that(more times than I would like to admit). You would be smart to save the money for a 125 liter board. I know you would have much more fun on this size once you get it wired. Keep the 180 for those light wind days.
