Do you know why surfing was invented, who invented it, and when it was invented? Can you tell me what country it was from? Can you give me some general information on surfing, like how it's played? Has there been any changes in the rules since it was invented? Are there any really interesting facts on surfing? What are some important people in surfing history? Last, is surfing an Olympic sport, or did it use to be one?

Hey Jessika,

It originally came about as a form of transportation for early day tribes in island areas of the south pacific. Not sure how far it dates back but it is at least a couple thousand years old. Samoan people were some of the earliest tribes to take up surfing.

As for how it's played, it isn't really a game. It is a board that is ridden on a wave. The only rules are that you wait to take your turn based on when you lined up with the other surfers.

I don't really know any big names for early day surfing as I'm not really a surfing enthusiast. No, it is not an Olympic sport. Windsurfing is an Olympic sport but not surfing.
