rigging a windsurfer
Question
I saw a similar question but I hope with more information, you might be able to help - I got a Windsurfer brand windsurfer for free but I don't know how to attach the mast to the boom. It's from the early 80's and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to tie the two pieces together or use what looks like a groove with ridges on either side of the boom to hold the rope.
Thanks.
Answer
The old windsurfer booms are complicated to attach but even more complicated to describe how to do it. First slide the mast into the sail sleeve. Then with the sail loose on the mast slide the boom down onto the mast in the middle of the opening on the sail where you attach the boom to the mast.
The back of the boom should be up around the top of the mast/sail and attaching part of the boom should be down near the opening on the sail/mast. Then tie the mast to the boom really tight wrapping it around both twice and cleat it off. Then flip the back of the boom down and the mounting area of the boom will cinch up real tight to the mast. Then pull down on the rope at the bottom of the sail and tie it off. Then pull out the back tip of the sail and tie it off to the end of the boom. That is the best way I can describe it. You can also try to search on google for some visual instructions. The new equipment is way easier to rig and sail and learn on. The older the board the more difficult the learning curve.
Good luck and good wind.
