right size for me
Question
I have been riding a 12' long 20 year old Windsurfer for 15 years but my skills are rudimentary at best. I want to graduate to intermediate and then to advanced in this season. I can do beach starts but have never done a water start. What size board do I need to advance? I want to be able to do a waterstart with it and perform a planing jibe but still be able to uphaul if necessary. I'm 5'10" and weigh 154 lbs. Thank you. Tom
Answer
Hey Tom,
If you are going for a newer style board, you would probably be able to get by with something around 150-170ltr. The newer boards are wider and more stable with shorter lengths. This allows for newer sailors to use a board with less volume. These newer designs also allow a person to grow into the board instead of outgrowing it. This size would also work well for you on light wind days even when you are able to sail on the higher wind days.
Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
