windsurf mast top
Question
Hi, I have been given a 6.2 sail which only has a non- adjustable webbing strap at the top. Can you tell me the name of the attachment I need please? It needs to open so that I can fix it to the the webbing strap and either fit over or push in to the mast. I explained what I needed to a windsurf store over the phone and ended up with a useless top which does not open to accommodate the strap.

Answer
Hey Jo,
I'm not quite sure I understand the problem. It sounds like your sail has a top that is NOT adjustable. Is your mast too long? Too short? If it is too short, a longer mast base should fix the problem. If your mast is too long, then adding an adjustable top to your sail may be a problem. If there is a grommet at the top (usually on older sails but NOT found on newer sails) then adding an adjustable mast cap is the solution. If there is no grommet, then you probably need a shorter mast. You could possibly cut down the one you have. I suggest this as a LAST resort and cut it off the top, not the bottom. Try to find a plug to fit into the top if you cut it to keep water out of the mast. Please feel free to elaborate on your problem if this doesn't help.
Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
