I bought an old board
Question
I bought an old board for $50 at a garage sale. I've always wanted to try it but not much of it going on near St Louis. I saw part of my answer in one of your posts but could not find the earlier post that you refer to. So here is the question . Is this board worth buying the parts I need to make it work. Bic Melody board with fin and thing that goes down in the middle that retracts. The items on top of the board all seem fine. It has a sail and the part you hold on to (a loop about 4 ft long) and a hook with 3 round pulley type items. I called Bic and found out that I need a replacement rubber universal joint with 6 mm studs. I also need the mast. What do you think. Where should I try to get these things and do I need anything else. Is it worth spending the money on? Of course then there is trying to figure out how to use it. I know that was long so thank you for reading it.
Answer
Hey Zara,
A Bic Melody should have a standard mast track and it will be easy for you to get the parts you need. Check out these sites for the parts you need;
www.chinooksailing.com for universals and complete mast bases. Check the pics there and see what you have to determine if you need a whole base or just some parts.
www.oceanairsports.com has various parts. Look under windsurfing, parts, Mistral & Chinook.
www.windance.com has bases and parts in the Gorge. They also carry used masts for good prices and will ship at reasonable rates.
You could also talk to BigWinds.com in the Gorge for misc. parts for mast bases.
Check out www.windsurfingmag.com for instruction and shop listings. You may find something fairly close to you. They also list online shops in the links section. Lots of great info to be found at this site.
Hope this helps.
