windsurfer parts
Question
Hello, I have the opportunity to pick up a Fanatic Club (not sure what model) for free, but it is missing the sail(s). Do you know where I could get more sails?
I don't know much about the brand names except for the most popular ones, could you tell me anything about the Fanatics?
Thank you so much,
Debating on picking this one up
Answer
Hey Stacy,
The Fanatic Club is an older board that was a fairly decent board in it's day. Mainly for beginner but worked for the advanced sailor too. High volume means plenty of float for uphauling. There should be a daggerboard (centerboard) that should retract into the board if my old guy memory serves me. Whether retractable or not, be sure it is there as finding a replacement would be very difficult.
Also check out the mast track. It should be a slot in the top of the board about 12-18" long. There may just be a couple of holes in the board. If just holes, ask about a mast base specific to the board. If holes and no mast base, board is worthless as finding a specific mast base to fit will be harder than trying to find a daggerboard.
If it is a long slot type mast track, then any modern mast base will work. Check out chinooksailing.com for bases. This will give you an idea of what you would look for when shopping for a base (if you need one).
You mention needing sails. Do you need a mast and boom also? There are usually plenty of used ones available via your local craigslist and ebay. Use windsurf, windsurfer, windsurfing for your searches. You will get different results with each word. You should be able to find used gear to suit your needs to get you on the water.
Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
I have a new beginner board for sale.
