weight
Question
What is the ideal weight for a wind surfer?
Is it important to be of one particular physique to surf compititively?
Answer
Hey Dash,
There really isn't any specific weight that makes an 'ideal' windsurfer. In the pro ranks there are all sizes of sailors. The taller, stronger, heavier sailors tend to do a bit better in the higher winds as they can control a larger sail. But the smaller sailors learn finesse and tactics to compete with the brawny sailors. The main thing to be competitive is learning the techniques of the particular competition and practicing as much as possible. There is a young man who is only 22 years old and is giving the pro slalom sailors quite the challenge. The kid is lean and lanky but is keeping up with the larger sailors. It's all about experience and determination that makes any sailor competitive.
Hope this helps.
