Floatation of board

Question
Hello, I'm 83Kg. What is the lowest amount of volume in litres of board, to keep me floating on it even in very light or no wind conditions? Particularly - will Fanatic Skate TE 97l 2008 float with me and new light freestyle rig?

Hey Roman,

I don't think that a 97L board will float you in very light or no wind conditions. Even with the new designs, there still has to be enough volume to float a person if they are trying to sail in sub-planing conditions. With your weight, I would think that 105-110 would be the minimum volume to keep you from totally sinking. Even this volume would have you performing a balancing act to get the board going as you would not have enough wind for waterstarting, thus uphauling and going would be a chanllenge.

If you are wanting to plane in very light condtions, I would say that 125L or more would be needed to support you and the size of sail you would need for very light winds. Very light winds would require a sail around 8-10 meters to get a board moving. To support this size of sail would require a board in the 135+ range.

If you are going to be using at 97L board at your weight, you will need a minimum of 15kts using a sail on the upper end of the recommended sail range for a board of this volume. Ideally, you would want 18-20+kts to really enjoy a board of this volume.
