Question
SAILBOARD
What do you think? I need to find a boom and any other rigings? and the seam on one side is open about 3" is that hard to closeup?
Is Curtis Hawk a good sail board? if I was to sell it what would be a fair price? let me know a good place to get parts and any other info you can help me with. Thank you, Lee P>S> I sent you a message yesterday hope the photos come though
AnswerHey Lee,
That board is from the early '80's and well past it's prime. You might get someone to buy it as a sup (stand up paddle) board but your best bet would be to donate it to a kids camp or similar and take $50 off your taxes as a charitable donation. To sell it you might get someone to give you $25 for it. A used boom will cost more than the board is worth.
But, it you want to fix it up and use it or make it just a bit more sellable then here is what you need to fix it. About the only thing you could do with the seam is to fill it with epoxy. Go to www.chinooksailing.com and get some of the Solareze. Easy to use and won't eat the core of the board.
Booms can be found on ebay or craigslist. You need to measure from the front of the mast to the clew of the sail (where the grommet is farthest from the mast) to determine the 'clew' length. The boom needs to be about 6-10" longer than the clew length.
Hope this helps,
