old windsurf board & new mast
Question
Hi -- I have a board that is pushing 30 years old. It's a Magnum...not even sure who made it. I also have some new boards and new rigs. I would like to use the new rigs with the old board, but the mast universal mount is completely different. The new rigs are designed for the infinitely adjustable "slot" mounting to the board. The old Magnum has two mounting holes (two positions). I need a new universal joint/mount that will allow me to attach my new mast to the old board hole style mount. Any idea how or if such a thing is made, and how to get one? Thanks.
Jeff
Answer
Hey Jeff,
If you don't have the original mast base that was designed specifically for that board, you are out of luck in getting a replacement. You might get lucky and find one on ebay but chances are slim. Those old Magnums were made in the late '70's to early '80's. They just don't make anything like that any more. The only other option would be to possibly make one out of wood. It probably had flat spots to allow it to slip past the two metal pins in the hole. There would be a lip on the round parts that would just fit under the pins. Slide the base in and twist to lock the lip under the pins.
I'm afraid your old board will become a stand up paddle board or turn it into a bench for the back yard. They also make a fairly decent sled in the winter.
Hope this helps.
