Islander Sailboard (Again)
Question
Hi Windlover,
Forgive me for asking multiple questions, but I had a revelation with the board that might help you. I discovered that the sail and mast are originally from a sunfish when I spread it out...any idea how a sunfish mast would attach to the sailboard in question?
Thank you again.
Answer
Hey Susannah,
I have no idea if a sunfish mast can attach to a windsurf board. First, you would have to have the original 'mast base' for the windsurfer and then you would have to determine if the diameter of the sunfish mast is the right size to fit the base. I have never sailed a sunfish but sure enjoyed watching the young kids rip around on them during local regattas. The other fun part was that we were faster on our old windsurfers than they were so we all had fun scooting around on the lake with each other.
I'm afraid that you have gotten yourself a SUP (stand up paddle board). If you are really serious about learning to windsurf, look around for some more modern gear. There is plenty of used beginner/intermediate gear around for great prices. Anything early 2000 and newer will be modern enough to find any missing parts or add to the quiver.
Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
