Sail for Pandera
Question
I've read some of your responses - great! I'm wondering about replacing the sail on my Mistral Pandera - everything else is in great shape, but the sail has begun to peel the plastic coating off. The sail is the original, 6.2m. Thanks in advance for the help!
Answer
Hey Greg,
For the size of the board you will probably want to have something around the same size. You could go up to a 7.5m sail and actually have a wider wind range than the old 6.2 due to the newer designs of modern sails. The key thing to look at is the mast you currently have. Check the length and stiffness. You should find a sail that requires the same stiffness as your mast. If your mast is an older fiberglass mast, it may or may not be stiff enough for newer sails. 7.5 sails will average around 27-29 mcs so your mast should fall in that range to make matching a new sail easier. If you have a medium to long extension then your mast can be a bit shorter. Most new 7.5m sails are looking for either a 460 or 490 cm mast. For some great deals on good sails, check out ebay and look for Maui Sails being listed by rigmastermaui. You can usually get a new or lightly used sail in great shape for a good price. Maui Sails website lists all their sails going back about 6 years so you can read up on the specs of older sails.
Hope this helps.
