old mistral mast extention
Question
Dear Windlover,
I am a novice. I have an old -at least 15yo - mistral board. Please forgive me the lack of proper vocabulary. The plastic screw ring on the mast extension ( the one that connects the extension to the mast) has broke. What is the name of this part? Should I replace the whole mast extension? Should I sell what I have for parts to big wind and get a newer easier board?
Please help. Thank you, Joanna.
Answer
Hey Joanna,
If your budget allows you to upgrade to a newer, easier board, do it. If your budget only allows fixing the problem and using your old rig for a while, then you should replace the whole mast extension. But realize that you may also need to replace the base so that the base and extension will match.
There are a number of online shops selling bases and extensions. Here is one of the top manufacturers; www.chinooksailing.com. For more online shop options, just Google 'windsurfing mast bases'.
Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
