Mast Foot
Question
QUESTION: Hey, I was reading one of you responses on rigging and was super happy that you were talking about the mast foot. A couple weekends ago I was out on Lake Huron and a storm was blowing in so my dad, who is teaching me how to wind surf, and I bolted out and in the process we lost our mast foot. The fitting has two ends one that locks into the board with a simple twist and the other slides into the mast. The board is quite old and has Wind Racer II Holt Marine written on it. As well the mast is an Exel. I was hoping you'd be able to let me know where I would be able to find a possible fitting, most of the fittings I have seen are newer versions with the screw like bolt on the bottom. The previous fitting also had that string with another fitting on it that was also put into the board as a safety measure I believe.
Would love help, thanks
ANSWER: Hey Samantha,
I'm afraid that you either have to find the missing mast foot or your board has become a stand up paddle board. That type of mast to board connection has not been made for over 25 years and is obsolete. It would be close to impossible to find a replacement. Short of making one from memory out of a solid piece of hardwood, I don't know of any other options for you. Sorry for the bad news.
Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Is there a possibility of retrofitting the old board so that I can use a new connector???
Answer
Hey Samantha,
There is a possibility of doing a retrofit and installing a new mast track that will accept a modern type mast base. The only way that I would recommend this is if you are near a surfboard repair shop. They would have the knowledge and materials compatible to installing a new mast track. If you were to ask a windsurf shop, they would recommend a new board as most shops don't do repair work on boards.
Hope this helps.
