Windsurf board/sail sizes

Question
I grew up windsurfing with Mistral. Don't see them sold or used here in Miami. I rented F2 couple of times and it seems to be a nice board. Question: I am 6 feet 4 and about 200 pounds, planning to surf in Miami area mostly on the bay so no major winds so the sail could be fairly large (planning to learn to use a harness). I am looking for a somewhat stable board since I don't know how to water start but might want to learn that in the near future. Thanks in advance. PS. does it make any sense to try to paddle board on a windsurf board?

Answer
Hey Restart,

There are many boards that will suit your needs. To fit the description of what type of sailing you describe, you probably want to find a board somewhere in the 145-200ltr range. Look for a board with a daggerboard for stability in rope starting. The newer style boards are wider and shorter and work well in a variety of winds.
Check out this shop for a good selection of boards that would fit your needs. http://www.liquidsurfandsail.com/ The Fanatic Viper line has the lowest volume board with a daggerboard that would work well for learning waterstarts and still carry large sails for light winds.

Some new paddle boards are made to attach a sail. Some folks are using old boards as paddle boards.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
