Damage on used sail
Question
FOLLOW-UP QUESTION: the seller also has a 7.0 sail from the same maker and period. It doesn't have any of the damage like the 6.0, however, it comes with an aluminum mast. I've been previously advised to stay away from the aluminum masts but never heard specifically why. Could you share your perspective on it? Thanks for all your answers!
Answer
Hey Greg,
There is nothing wrong with aluminum masts. They were widely used in their time as they provided a stronger mast than traditional fiberglass and were also lighter in weight. They are not as light as carbon masts but they still work fine. Just do a thorough inspection of the mast for any dents. Scratches and wear marks won't hurt anything but dents could lead to failure.
Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
