hello, I'm trying to remove a ujoint from a vintage mast to use in anoter old mast I have but I can not find the way to remove the bottom part, please help so I can get back in the water. I attached a pic of the ujoint.

There is probably a nut holding the part on the u-joint. Look into the end of the plastic and you should see it. Not sure what the gray part is but it might be a plug of some type that you may have to remove to access the nut. Should take a about a 12mm or 1/2" socket to remove the nut. It may be rusty or oxidized so shoot some penetrant oil down there and let it set overnight to help loosen things. Liquid Wrench is probably best but WD40 or brake fluid will help. Use a strap wrench to hold the hourglass while turning the nut. Try to grip it at the fat part because that is where there is a metal washer with the threaded stud attached. The narrow part of the u-joint is just rubber and could possibly tear with too much force applied.
