Re-intro to the sport, now with teenagers
Question
In my teen years I have fond memories of windsurfing on lakes in northwestern Ontario. Now 25 years later with 2 teenagers I am thinking of getting outfitted for the family.
Me - 255lbs 6'6"
teen1 - 150lbs 5'9"
teen2 - 110lbs 5'8"
We would be boarding on inland lakes in the Muskoka Ontario region
A used kit is on the market:
160 Mistral Malibu Board
140-200 Aquaglide Boom
5.3 North Drive Light Sail
Tall Aluminum Mast Extention Pin Style
Ambrotech Epic Gear Tendon Euro Uphaul
Fibrespar 3200 Reflex Mast
Would this work for us? If not, what would?
Thanks in advance!
Answer
Hey Duncan,
Great to hear that you are wanting to get back into sailing and introduce your teens to the fun. This board should work well for the teens. Depending upon how well the teens are doing, a smaller sail may be needed to help them through the learning stages. If you are intermediate and want to work towards becoming an advanced sailor, with your size, it would be a good transition board for you. Depending upon your abilities, it may be a bit low in volume if you are not able to waterstart. Rope starting for you could be a bit of a challenge. For a guy your size, you should consider a larger sail, something around 6.5-7.0 for the lighter wind days.
Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
