harness line and harness
Question
hi windolover is a harness really advisable in windsurfing? if it is needed what type of harness should i use? i can see over the net harnesses like a seat harness and waist harness whats the difference between the two? and which should i use? and also what length of harness line should i use? is an adjustable harness advisable? thank you very much!!!
Answer
Hey Martin,
A harness puts the pull of the sail into your body and greatly reduces fatigue in the arms and shoulders.
Waist harnesses are used mainly by wave and freestyle sailors. They are easier to get hooked into and some recreational sailors prefer them.
Seat harnesses are used by racers and sailors looking for more control and speed. When sailing, seat harnesses are more comfortable than waist harnesses and are much better for sailing higher winds. It basically comes down to personal preference.
Harness lines come in a variety of styles. Fixed is for those that know exactly what they need. Adjustable on the fly are nice as they can be changed easily for different sails and conditions. The other adjustable type, you set them where you want and fine tune the adjustment between sailing sessions. This is the type I use as I rarely need to change anything.
