Answer
Hey Fredrick,
Old sails are fine to use if they are in good condition. My favorite and most used sail is a 1997 that I bought used. It had only been sailed a few times when I got it and it is still in great condition. . The thing to do is inspect the sail before each use to ensure no damage occurred during your last session or when storing it.
Here are a few tips for good sail care; Always wash salt and sand off after sailing in saltwater. Hang the sail to dry before rolling it up for storage. Tying it between a couple of trees works well. Use one of your tie down straps on the top and a rope through the bottom grommet. When rolling up the sail, roll it fairly tight with the battens in. Try to NOT crease the clear monofilm as this can lead to cracks. Don't store anything on top of the sails. When transporting your sails, it is better to put them inside the rig than tying them on top.
Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
