old 12 Hunter
Question
QUESTION: I traded a marble that I made for a old old sail board. It it intact with new sail. I am not sure how to install the dagger board. I think the dagger board box in the board has over time warped and so it does not slide in easily. I have applied silicone and can force it in if I know how it goes.
ANSWER: Hey Michael,
There should be some tabs on the daggerboard that will slip into specific slots in the daggerboard slot. Knowing what and how to line them up is the key. I'm not really familiar with that model board so I can't specify what goes where. If you could send a couple of pics of the daggerboard slot and the daggerboard, I could probably help you more. There is also the possibility that the daggerboard is not the one specifically for that board.
Hope this helps.

QUESTION: I looked at it again and that makes sense. Is it likely the dagger board will end up flush with the deck when it is installed correctly? I would seem it would have to or you would step on it.
I am not surprised you are not familiar with the board. It may be older than both you and I. It seems the hardware is made my Tencate.
Thanks
Answer
Hey Michael,
There are two types of daggerboards, fixed and retractable. It is pretty likely that yours is a fixed. A fixed type will usually slide into the slot and end up flush on the top of the board. A retractable type will usually have pins that slide into slots in the box so it can pivot up into the board. Your box may have shrunk just a bit due to lack of use or the daggerboard may have swollen a bit over time. Look carefully at the slot and the daggerboard to see if there are things to line up. It might slide in at an angle, front to back.
Hope this helps.
