Mast position on fixed track

Question
Hi Windlover,

Good news - the conversion of my mast track on the old HiFly board with the Mistral Slider Nut and Chinook Standard US Base went perfectly!

I've read the other forum posts about mast position (forward for lighter winds and back in heavier), but since I am using the newer style 6.0 m2 Pursuit sail and the new 430 Carbon mast, I wanted to see if that logic still held true for my rig/weight.

Is that still the case or do I need to setup my rig differently?

BTW - the cleanup of the board was a big success (looks like a new one).  Hard to believe it is a board from the late 80's.

I even came up with a clever retrofit for the old footstraps (where the neoprene was dry rotted) with a piece of neoprene pipe insulation which I will cut to fit (it adheres to itself to form a "tube") after I adjust the footstraps.  Not perfect, but it should do until I can spring for replacements.

On that note, how far do my feet need to fit into the straps?  Since the tubing won't allow for easy adjustment after it is closed, I need to get things pretty much right before I cover the adjustable part of the straps (allowing a bit more for the tubing thickness of course).

As always, thanks for your help with these two questions.

Charles

Answer
Hey Charles,

The 'forward for light winds, back in heavy winds' holds true for ALL sails on ALL boards. It's all about weight distribution vs. board speed.

Your feet should only go into the footstrap to where just your toes are sticking out. Too far in and your foot could get stuck and get injured during a fall.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
