gortex mitts
Question
price is not an issue. i am looking for very warm and dry mitts, not gloves. is gortex something i should be looking for? i want a skiing/snowboard mitt, the ones that extend up a bit further than regular mitts. they will only be used for long distance walking in the winter. i was thinking of this gortex mitt http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444254389...
or a non gortex kombi mitt like this http://sportmart.ca/store/2product.asp?countryID=0&category%5Fid=118&product%5Fi...
thanks,
sk
Answer
Dear SK --
Unless you are in an area that is cold but always dry, you should get the Gore-tex gloves. The small increased cost will be outweighed by the increased comfort in damp weather of the goretex waterproof but breathable shell/liner.
The gore-tex mitt you showed would be a good one because it has a good amount of appropriate insulation. Be sure to buy a mitten that is roomy enough to allow warm air to remain around your hand and fingers but not so loose that the mitt bellows and sucks cold air into the mitten.
I hope this answer helps you in your decision. Best of luck to you.
