Questions about older ski gear
Question
Hi, it has been a while since I last skied. I live in NJ and there is a neat school I took my 10 year old to and he clicked immediately. He rented (he's growing) but I would like to go out with him. I have a pair of Salomon Custom Fit 3D Performa boots with the flex 75-80 adjuster. They are barely used. They were considered pretty good when I bought them over 10 year ago. I'm wondering if they are still any good and worth using. I've seen some cheap Salomon ski+binding packages for about $300 and thinking of buying the skis and using these boots. I'm a weekend warrior. Or maybe just renting. Any advice? Thanks.
Answer
Hey Tim,
Your boots should have DIN in raised letters somewhere around the sole of the boots, probably on the side below the instep. This will mean that the boots will work with any newer type binding.
That said, if the boots fit you well and are comfortable, use them. Nothing wrong with older boots, especially if they haven't been used much. As for the ski package deal, be sure to check that they are for an adult. Sometimes they don't really say what age skier they are for and just advertise a junior package to get you in the door. Also try to determine that they will meet your skiing needs and abilities. If you are intermediate or advanced, you don't want to buy entry level gear. Shop wisely.
When you mention 'Custom Fit', do they have a moldable liner in them? If so, take them to your nearest Salomon dealer and have them reheated and remolded to your feet. That should take care of any fit issues.
Great to hear you have gotten your son into skiing. It's a great sport that always needs new youngsters.
Hope this helps.
Keep on skiing,
