ski camber

Question
Hi.  I recently purchased a pair of Head Xenon 9.0 skid and after 10 days of skiing, they have very little camber.  When I tie up the ski brakes and lie them flat there is about 1/4" of clearance. I dropped them a few times; could that cause a loss of camber.  The ski shop I bought them from says that they just don't have a lot of camber; it is part of the design.  Your thoughts?

Thanks

Answer
Hey Steven,

With the advent of shaping skis these days, the camber is almost all gone in most modern skis. In older skis, the camber is what helped 'shape' the ski during the turn. With the wider tips and tails of the new shapes, a lot less camber is needed to help the skis perform. So, the shop is correct when they say that it is part of the design. They just didn't explain why.

Hope this helps.
Keep on skiing,
