Marker M31 snow ski bindings, how to adjust

Question
Cant seem to figure out how to adjust the M 31 and the M51.  Any help?

Answer
Hey Jody,

Here is a chart for the M51. I can't find one for the M31 but the settings will be very similar. Be sure to heed the advice on the Disclaimer, but this will get you in the ball park.

The first thing to set is the length of the binding to your boot. Set the toe in and see where the heel sits prior to pushing it down into the binding. The back of the heel should be just fitting into the heel cup or about 1/8" away. There is a screw on the very back of the heel piece on the bottom that will adjust the heel forward and back. Adjust accordingly to fit the heel.

Now use the DIN chart to make the settings.

It seems a bit convoluted but read it through a few times and you should be able to figure it out. Once you have determined your DIN settings, adjust the large screw on the heel and toe of the bindings while watching the line in the view glass.

There is a way to test your settings if you have someone around to help you. Put your skis down on a carpet about two feet apart, put your boots on, and step into one ski. Have your helper hold down the back of the ski. With your free foot, step back and then step forward with your free foot. As your free foot sets down, pull up with your heel that is in the ski. Really give it a good pull to simulate falling forward. Your heel should release. If it won't come out with a couple good tries, back off your setting about 1/4-1/2 mark and try again.

For the toes, twist your toe to the inside with some knee and toe pressure. Have your helper hit the outside of your boot just back from the toes to assit it out of the binding. If it is too difficult, then back off the setting. Do the same with the other ski and you should be set for safe skiing. If you find yourself releasing too easily while on the slopes, tighten the DIN settings back up 1/4 mark at a time.

If all else fails, get a shop tech to set them for you.

Hope this helps.
Keep on skiing,
