J5 ski sizing
Question
My granddaughter is 10 yrs old, will be racing J5 this year. Has 2 years on a dev team but this is her 1st year racing. She is 130 cm tall, 80 lbs. and for the past 2 seasons she has been on 110 cm skis. She's grown 2" and gained 12 lbs since last season. I'm looking at Rossignol Radical Pro SL in either 125 or 130 cm lengths. Which do you think would be better for a 1st year racer of her weight.
Answer
Hey Don,
Great to hear that you are helping to support the young skiers. They are what keeps our sport going.
There are a few things to consider that should help you decide what length to go for.
First, she will probably be continuing to grow in height and possibly weight. How much during the season, hard to say. If she grows much more, or you want to get two seasons out of the skis, then the 130cm would be something she grows into and maybe not outgrow them during a second season.
Second, will she be skiing just slalom or possibly gs too? How well is she skiing slalom gates? If she is doing well on 110's, the extra length will take a little adjustment. If she is not going to be doing gs, then the 125's might work a little better for her. But if there will be gs skiing or she wants just little more speed, the 130's would be the better choice.
All this said, 5cm is not much difference and I personally think that the 130cm would be the better choice. Just my opinion so give all this some thought.
Hope this helps.
Keep on skiing,
