Question
I have just started to use outriggers (to provide better balance and to relieve pressure on one ankle) and wondered how to determine the right length of the crutch part of the outrigger. A short crutch tends to make me bend much at the waist , yet a longer crutch puts my elbows rather high when I go faster. I was once a rather high intermediate skier who can carve a decent turn on groomed snow. Thanks for any help.
Answer
hello
you dont say where you are from in the USA.
have you been in touch with the disability snow sports organisation - adaptive sports?
they will be able to set you up and give you hands on advice.
some organisations can also organise cheaper [sometimes even free] lift tickets and will have equipment you can try out as well
all that said -
from my own experience 'playing' with outriggers i had to do quite a few adjustments until i found a height i could work with. In the end i had them so my hands where close to waist height.
so that when i was standing i was slightly forward, it also meant that when i was skiing i was forward but also centred.
hope that helps
