Skis for a junior racer
Question
What ski would you recommend for a small 7 year old boy racer. He skied on
100cm skis last year. I was trying to buy an atomic gs 11. Do they make a
ski like that in a 110cm ski?
Answer
What an exciting age for a young racer! Although it's hard to estimate a ski for him without knowing his height and/or weight, I think a 110 cm ski is a fine choice, especially if he was comfortable on the 100 last year and has grown at a typical rate. Atomic does indeed make a GS-cut ski at that length called the GS 7. Keep an open mind to other companies, though; I'm very partial to Dynastar, and they make a Team Speed Jr. 110. The Fischer Competition Jr. 110 has had great success also, and the Elan RC Race Jr. might be good but a little bit more sophisticated. A great website to browse the skis (and find decent prices) is www.ski-depot.com . Atomic's junior technology has changed quite a bit from the 2007 to 2008 model, but for the other companies, a 2007 would work nearly as well. (If you're on a budget, check out any local ski swap- the deals can't be beat, and often the benefits of the swap help the local ski team!) Have a great winter and let me know if I can help any more!
