Alpine Touring Ski Boots
Question
I would like to try AT skiing and would like to know if I can use my downhill ski boots. The reason I ask is because I have always had fit problems with ski boots so last year I went to Sure Foot and had them mold a pair of boots to my foot....these are the best boots I have ever had so I want to use them. They are an all terrain downhill boot with a 110 flex.
Answer
Hi Bob, and thanks for the question.
We have done pretty much everything in our downhill or alpine boots over the years - including snowboarding if you remember.
You're boots should be ok. You may just need to play around with your buckles leaving the ones near your ankle looser. Especially the one that sits over the ankle joint.
Be aware tho, that if your exerting extra flex into the liner of the boot - you may wear it out sooner, requiring it to be replaced. But generally a boot liner should get you 5yr of recreational skiing anyway - or about 2-300 days on snow. If you're finding your mould not quite right - you may be able to work with a boot tech who can add padding to the outside to firm it up inside the shell again - butthat wont be till alter downt he track.
Have fun - and like i said, you may just need to play around with your buckles to ensure better movement.
