Snowboarding in the rain

My Friends and i are going snowboarding over spring break at cataloochee ski area in maggie valley ,nc. It just snowed one to two days ago, but when we get there to snowboard on monday and tuesday, its forecasted "local thunderstorms", and temps around upper 50's low 60's,will we still be able to board?

Hi Nick and thanks for the question.

A quick look at the Cataloochee website indicates skiing will be possible - they are claiming a 50-102inch base which is significant.

However, if they do get the rain it will begin to melt the snow [basic science]. But with temps in the 50-60's [i had to google that into celcius] the melt will be alot faster. Id assume the 102 is on the snowmaking areas. So be aware they may be the only areas of the mountain still open if they do recieve more rain. They may however, get snow on the upper slopes, hard to predict.

As im unable to predict the exact weather between now and then [especially form here in the desert of Australia], and what the quality of snow actually is to determine if it will hold up, im unable to guarantee you anything more than im sure you'll have fun no matter what.  Snowboarders have a knack of enjoying any weather and they always find something to do. And if the weather isnt all that good - you can be assured there wont be any lift queues!

Also, riding at that temp can be dangerous [overheating], so be aware of what your body is trying to tell you and take a drink. Especially if you build a jump and are walking it for an hour or more.
