warm gloves/mitts


Question
what are the best gloves to keep my hands warm whilst skiing in sub zero temperatures in the french alps in winter?

the last two seasons have been torture trying to keep hands warm with a variety of different gloves and liners.

im 5' 6''tall, weigh 9st 3lb, good confident intermediate (BASI Level 1 dry slope instructor),at RM Condor in Scotland. 20 years skiing experience. many thanks for your help

Hi Les and thanks for your question.

Warm hands can be difficult.
I'm assuming you don't have cold hands at any other time - if you do get that checked out by your GP as it could be from a number of different causes.

Having a clean bill of health - there are a few things you can consider:

* Mittens with the glove liner - Fingers need each other to stay warm so go for a liner that has seperate fingers but a mit overglove.
* warmer packs - the ones you can buy from the shops that you crack and they keep you toastie.
* keep moving - make a conscious effort to wriggle your fingers and shake your arms when on the lift heading back up. shoulder shrugs, arm circles will all help.
* gloves on - DO NOT TAKE THEM OFF when your outside, htey will never be the same. Also if you can change your gloves at lunchtime or at least your liners as they will be sweaty and wont warm up again.
