VALUE OF SKIS
Question
I have one pair of HEAD skis that have never been used and are in mint condition without the bindings or boots. Model number # 190 243 155. The bottom of the skis have LIFE compact printed on them. They are blue, red, and silver without any special graphics. I recieved them as a gift sometime during 1982 and 1986. I don't know what year theY were made. What is there value, and what would be the best way to sell them? Are they a collectors item? Any information would be appreciated! Thankyou.
Answer
Hey Alex,
The value of old gear is all relative to what the buyer is looking for and how much they are willing to spend. Older skis usually don't have much value as the new shapes and designs make skiing so much easier that very few people are interested in old style skis. As for an amount to start with, that is a question that is hard to answer. I really doubt you could get more than $100 and more likely to settle for around $25. There just isn't much market for older skis.
You could check your local shops for a Head dealer and see if they have any idea of the value. You could also email Head at www.head.com to see if they could give you some more information on your skis.
That being said, there may still be some interest in your skis as they have not had bindings and they sound like they may have been a special model. You could list them on ebay or craigslist and possibly get a buyer. Another option would be to watch for local swap meets. Now through opening day is when most areas have them. Check with your local ski shops and the local Ski Patrol group for dates and times. A ski swap would expose your skis to the most potential buyers and possible collectors.
Hope this helps.
Keep on skiing,
