What skates?
Question
I have been skating for a couple of years. I completed a half of A2A in 4hrs 20 min. last year. I have been skating on K2 Flights (4 wheel fitness skates). I feel that I have outgrown my skates. The problem is that I am afraid of 5 wheel speed skates. I do not seem to be getting a hang of T braking. Without a heel brake I feel completely hopeless. The other problem is that I have a very distinct tendency for overpronation while skating which in turns hurt my joints and muscles in a long run. Are there any skates you could recommend for somebody like me? Summarizing I need something good for long distance skating (5wheel???) with a heel brake and preventing overpronation. Is there something like out on the market???
I would appreciate your advice very much.
Regards,
Adam.
Answer
Adam, I will try and help you out the best that I can with this one. I hear what you are saying about T-braking, I never liked that method of stopping either. As for getting into a five wheel skate alot of the new higher end four wheel fitness skates are geared more your style of skating. The frames on the new four wheel skates are actuially longer than those of the past and are pretty close to the lenght of a five wheel skate. I own a pair of the K2 kinetic which are an abec 5 and 77.5mm wheels. They are two models up from the flights. The salomon F9 models are also another skate you should look into. As far as your pronation problem I am not too familiar with there being a skate that will help correct this problem. The one thing that I have mentioned is putting a pronation control insert into the skate(made by spenco). This should help to keep your foot from rolling in when you skate. I hope that I have helped out some and if you have any more questions please feel free to ask .....Thank you
