pain in the arch
Question
My husband & I just got fitness rollerblades. My problem is my arches hurt. They are fine when I put the skates on, but soon after I start skating, on a flat surface, the arches of my feet ache! I need to stop after a short time. My husband has the same complaint. I don't get this ache with regular roller skates. Do you have any tips or maybe exercises to strengthen my feet?
Answer
Terri, Congrats on taking up skating. First, I would like to suggest that you go to see your doctor about any physical problems you have during exercise. Beyond that, I have some tips that may help. When you take a stride with inlines you are pushing side ways and with quads you are pushing back so you are putting more pressure on your arches with inlines. When I first started skating, my arches hurt and I bought a good pair of supports from the drug store. This helped till my feet built up enough strength. Also the quality of inline skate that you bought may effect how your feet feel. The expression "you get what you pay for" is appropriate here. If you bought a mid or high level skate then the arch supports may help. Cheaper skates may need new wheels and bearings, as well as arch support, so your feet dont need to work so hard. I hope this info helped some and if I can help you any further then dont hesitate to ask. good luck!
