blades vs skates
Question
is it true that inlines are safer and easier to learn than quad skates? I want to skate outdoors withmy kids who blade.
What are teh best sized wheels to get (in mm) as well as more round-flat wheels than fourns-pointy type?
Thanks
Answer
Yes it's true that inlines are safer than quads to use outdoors. They're safer because there's less wheel in contact with the ground, which means it decreases your chances of the wheel stopping dead if you hit a stone, pebble etc.
If you've never skated before I would suggest you try your inlines indoors first to get a feel for them. A flat, smooth surface is much easier to skate on than a surface with bumps and hills. If you have a hard time, find a local rink that offers group lessons. They will teach you the basics which will be a plus when you venture outdoors.
As far as wheel size? It's a personal preference. The bigger the wheel the less work you will have to do. The smaller the wheel the more pushing you will have to do. The smaller wheels are more for tricks, the larger wheels are more for speed.
Keep in mind the flatter the wheel the more you increase your chances of getting hurt by hitting a pebble. Compare skate prices and look for an average to large wheel and a fairly narrow wheel.
Good Luck and have fun.
