QuestionI have been looking for a pair of skates for my dear husband since his birthday last August. He has tried on all the ones in the rinks around here in Wichita KS but I haven't ordered any yet from the Reidell catalog as I will have to pay the return fees if nothing works. Anyway, the issue is that He tried a couple with ankle support but too tight in the toes (width). The last one we tried was shoe racing quads call "Box". Still to tight on his toes. His shoe size is 10 1/2 and we always try a size 11 in skates. I would like several suggestions in the $100-$200 range that is leather, has ankle support with aluminum plate and at least 3 ABEC wheels and as wide as possible? Is there such a thing out there. The skate center close to me sells Riedells from a catalog. More info. My husband is 46 years old and a decent skater. We do it for exercise 1 or 2 a week. I certainly hope you can help.

AnswerSusie,
I'm sorry to say that I know of nothing out there in the price range you've specified that meets all of your specs. Leather boot - wide, with ankle support, an aluminum plate, ABEC 3 wheels.
The Riedell 121 meets most of those specs but doesn't come in wide. The next step up is the Riedell 220 boot which does meet your specs but lists for $215.00 (I sell it for $180, so there are discounts out there). You should be able to get a package with the 220 boot, with a Suregrip Super X Plate, Legend wheels which come in several colors in 57mm & 95A durometer (hardness) & ABEC 3 bearing, for between $275 - $325 depending on what discounts you can find.
If you want you can take a tape measure & measure the widest part of his foot while standing with his weight on it & you can call me at 212 777-3232 or email
[email protected] & I'll tell you if the wide boot will work for him. It's worth the extra bucks for the Riedell 220 - it's a much finer boot & well padded for comfort.
Good Luck!............Lezly (Lezly Skate School NYC)
