inline vs quads
Question
For My 5 year old son who wants to do skating, I would like to know which skates are better for learning to rollerblade , inline or quads
Answer
Hi Jose,
I would suggest he start out on quads. You can control the speed of quads by tightening down the nut on a couple of the wheels which will get your son use to the idea of having skates on. Sometimes when the skates are to fast the kids get discouraged, cry and want to quit.
When you see him become more comfortable on the skates and wanting to actually push, start loosening the nut back up so he can roll freely.
Once he's pretty well balanced and can push with both feet then that's the time to let him try the inlines.
Sometimes when kids start out on inlines it's a disaster and they never want to try it again. The quads can be slowed down but the inlines can't. If you were to start him out on inlines at that young age he would most likely be spending most of his time on the floor.
So go with the quads first then switch him over to the inlines later on. Another good thing is that he will be able to skate on both kinds of skates then.
Good Luck and be safe....if your son plans on skating out doors, make sure he wears wrist guards and knee pads. If he's in a rink he may not need them unless you see him falling down a lot.
If you need help with anything else, just write me again.
