my 6 year old wants to skate
Question
I am considering buying skates for my 6 year old. she would use them mostly on pavement. My question is inlines or quads?
Answer
Hi Leila,
For skating outdoors I would suggest inlines. They are safer because pebbles won't trip her and because your daughter is only 6 yrs old they won't tend to roll as fast as quads would. Just make sure you buy her childrens roller blades and don't spend a lot of money. The more you spend, the faster they will roll.
Make sure she wears protective gear such as wrist guards and knee pads. Elbow pads and helmets are available also but the wrist guards and knee pads are probably the most important ones.
Once she has her skates take special notice that her ankles DO NOT turn in. This can damage her ankles. If they do, make sure the skate is snug enough to support her ankles and keep reminding her to keep her ankles straight up, over the wheels.
I'm sure she'll love her new skates. Now you go get some for yourself too so you can skate with her!
Good Luck
Pat
